Gavin Sean Griffiths, 29, is headed to the Antigonish area said RCMP
Police are alerting residents of Antigonish of the release of a high-risk sex offender back into the community.
Gavin Sean Griffiths, 29, is a high risk intensive supervision offender and repeat sex offender being monitored by the Ottawa Centre for Probation and Parole, according to a Nova Scotia RCMP release on Wednesday.
Police said Griffiths recently indicated he was coming to Nova Scotia, and RCMP is alerting residents in the Antigonish area in accordance with the Nova Scotia Release of High Risk Offender Information Protocol.
Griffiths has completed a sentence for sexual assaults and has a record of criminal convictions dating back to 2005 that includes convictions for sexual assault and other offences, the release said.
He has been assessed as being at a high risk to re-offend. Police said his victims have included adult women with whom he had no previous relationship.
Griffiths will be on probation for two years and required to follow conditions including restrictions on contact with several people, to not possess weapons, and to participate in counselling.
RCMP said this information is provided to alert residents to Griffiths’ presence so they may take suitable precautionary measures, but any form of vigilante activity or unreasonable conduct will not be tolerated.
