John Andrew Nightingale, 24, pleaded guilty Tuesday to sexual
interference and Internet luring in relation to an alleged
sexual encounter he had with a 14-year-old girl.

Meanwhile, charges of possessing child pornography and invitation to sexual touching were conditionally withdrawn by the Crown during his appearance, pending the registration of convictions on the two charges he has pleaded guilty to.

The charges were laid April 14 after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Deer Lake received a complaint from the girl’s mother.

The mother claims to have found suspect conversations on her daughter’s Facebook page and brought them to police.

Police said Nightingale and the girl were known to each other, and the offences apparently occurred over the past year.

A pre-sentence report on Nightingale has been requested and he will be back in court for a sentencing hearing June 20.
